Turnstiles are an alternative punk band from Galway, Ireland. London born frontman Callum Mitchell delivers stinging lyrics over the treble-heavy, shrapnel-spraying guitars of Colm Sweeney and Cillian Ryan, all backed by the powerhouse rhythms of Luke Mulliez and Jake Tiernan. Having carved out their own sound, and made a name for themselves locally with rowdy live shows in sitting rooms and pubs, Turnstiles recorded their first single 'Moving Forward / Wasting Away' in August of 2019. The follow up 'Tantrum' was released in February 2020 and was their first track to receive airplay on Irish national radio. With festival slots at Forbidden Fruit and KFest Covid-cancelled, Turnstiles concentrated on new music. They released 'I.D.C' in a locked down April '20 and Same Old Stories in July.
January 2021 opened a new chapter for the band as they released their first, eponymous EP. Garnering rave reviews, the 4 tracks consider the global political systems which constrain us and also remind us that there is also our individual conduct to consider. They are not afraid of confronting either strand or the way they intersect as the personal becomes political.
The EP garnered them their first play on UK national radio on Steve Lamacq's Recommends show. They will be touring the UK in October 2021.
