BORIS GREBENSHIKOV and AQUARIUM are back in Dublin with a new concert program!
There is hardly any Russian–speaking person in the world who has never heard of Boris Grebenshikov (also known as BG) and the band "Aquarium". During 1970s and 1980s not only did he build a foundation for Soviet rock music scene, but he also created his entirely own and unique musical and social style, code, even an aesthetics. Influenced by a variety of music styles and cultures, his style nevertheless remained recognisable - would it be quiet love ballads, light dancing reggae or powerful rock-n-roll anthems. BG's classical discography consists now of over 30 studio albums.
Grebenshikov is also no stranger outside the Post-Soviet countries. His albums were recorded and released throughout Europe, and North America, and he is widely known and respected among top Western musicians.
In February 2022 "Aquarium" had to stop performing under original name – after exactly 50 years of concert history – because of the Russian invasion. A new band, called "BG+" – emerged in its stead, with its own unique sound and vibe.
But today "Aquarium" is back, and once again sets out on a world tour to present its new album “Strange News from a Distant Star.” (In Russian: "Странные Новости с Далекой Звезды")
Every show played by Boris Grebenshikov and his band is more than just a performance. It is a journey through musical worlds, where legendary “Aquarium” songs, the soundtrack to the lives of several generations — meet brand-new compositions filled with tragedy, fresh poetic language, subtle irony, and the unmistakable spirit of BG.
“Aquarium” is a cultural phenomenon that once shaped the development of Russian-language music for decades to come. And today, remaining true to its spirit of freedom, “Aquarium” is neither nostalgia nor a repetition of the past, but a living dialogue with the present moment. Over half a century, more than one generation of listeners has changed, yet “Aquarium” remains an iconic band at whose center stands Boris Borisovich Grebenshikov — poet, composer, musician, and one of the most significant figures of contemporary culture.
Alongside the new material, the concert will feature songs that have long since become modern classics of Russian-language rock scene and part of its cultural code — written across different decades, yet still alive, relevant, and open to new interpretation.
Today's lineup of "Aquarium" includes
Boris Grebenshchikov — vocals, guitar
Konstantin Tumanov — accordion, keyboards
Brian Finnegan — flute
Andrey Surotdinov — violin
Leo Abrahams – guitar
Alexander Titov — bass
Liam Bradley — percussion, drums

See you on the 1st of April in Dublin!
