Vaughan first made his mark in 2011 with debut album Altered Vision, which reached No. 5 in the Irish Indie Album Charts. Rooted in the landscapes and stories of rural Ireland, it showcased his gift for lyrical honesty and powerful themes. His 2015 follow-up, Redemption, leaned further into rock while exploring love, loss, and national identity. The album earned widespread praise, with Hot Press comparing it to The Beatles and Pure M Magazine calling Vaughan “unmissable” and “en route to becoming an integral part of Irish rock.”
Altered Vision was the start of a journey that has seen Vaughan now release 3 further albums, and although the album itself was very much a homemade effort, it’s authenticity still carries weight amongst fans. The lead single, The Valley, a folky love song, still remains a popular inclusion on the set-list (https://youtu.be/5KSeSJsmNFs?si=iAkwEv-Wiginv4Zc) giving an insight into the young songwriters willingness to weave the themes of love, life in rural Ireland and learning through maturity into his music. The accompanying video shows the family pub which provided the characters and experiences which inspired much of his early song-writing. Even after a career that has seen him tour internationally (SXSW, Americanafest, Folk Alliance International), his home in Connemara remains an important part of his production.
