Roisin El Cherif

  • Button Factory Curved Street Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland (map)

Róisín El Cherif is an Irish Palestinian singer- songwriter and music film director from Galway.

With a background in film production, Roisin has built a distinctive visual style to go with her ethereal sound, drawing on mythology and magic as seen in singles Half a life and Glass House and her directorial debut of Abbey Theatre Short in 2022 of ‘We met on a dance floor’ written by Inua Ellams.

Roisin brings her sold out Fringe performance, a blend of songs and film visuals to the Button Factory on April 30th.

Of particular note are her performances at the Irish Arts for Palestine gig at the Olympia Theatre and at Gig for Gaza at 3Arena alongside stellar Irish artists. Roisin appeared on Síle Seoige’s podcast Ready to be Real and she performed on RTÉ One’s The Tommy Tiernan Show singing Siuil A Ruin with folk musicians Ruth Smith and Fergal Scahill.

Roisin performed at Electric Picnic, Féile an Phobail and Liberty Hall alongside Damien Dempsey.

Following the TT performance an Irish Arabic rendition of Siuil A Ruin was released.

“Róisín El Cherif has long been providing us with a vitally important and deeply rich cultural bridge that connects her Irish and Palestinian heritage.. and on this otherworldly and beautiful version of Siúil A Rún with Ruth Smith and Fergal Scahill and produced by Brian Crosby” by Fiachna O Braonain ( HotHouse Flowers, RTE Radio1)

“The weight of the evening is lost on nobody. It is telling. That this show, raw in its shape and experience, is dedicated to sharing other people’s stories and painting extensive pictures of the two worlds she knows.”

‘The different musical cultures are stitched smoothly.”
