Methodactor
The musical project of Dublin-based songwriter and producer Edward O'Mahony, fuses elements of hip-hop, electronic, cinematic scores, and alternative pop. Hailing from Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Methodactor’s sound is a unique blend of introspective lyricism and atmospheric production, drawing from a diverse range of influences, including Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, Blood Orange, and Gorillaz. His music delves deep into personal experiences, offering an emotional journey that captures the complexities of modern relationships, mental health struggles, and self-discovery.
Growing up in Dun Laoghaire, Edward was immersed in music from an early age, taking piano lessons at five and learning guitar at seven. His eclectic taste in music—from classical to hip-hop—has shaped his distinctive style. Before adopting the Methodactor moniker, he was the frontman of Dublin’s psych-rock band Jooce, where he developed his stage presence and songwriting skills. During the pandemic, Edward began to shape Methodactor, creating a sound that transcended genre boundaries. His music combines smooth, atmospheric beats with raw, reflective lyrics, influenced by his experiences and a passion for cinematic storytelling. Edward has also worked as a composer for short films, most recently for the short, Bunker Baby, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2024.
