VECTOR FIELD - ARCHEOLOGICAL FINDINGS AS MUSICAL PERFORMANCES
The purpose of this event is to deliver performances of electronic music through the creation of a fictional world. This event will allow the audience to interact with a cinematic hyperreality constructed by the organisers, where the practical application of stereotypical elements of a show will be utilised to support the world building of the main concept: a fictitious company showcasing scientific findings as musical performances.
The show aims to explore the tale SLUICEGATE LOGISTICS (provided by performer Rhoshi), a mysterious corporation of dubious origin, with further malicious intentions an open secret, who invest in the exploration and experimentation of a range of geographical locations; more specifically, archeological excavation sites. Findings from these projects are pockets of sonic energy, which in this storyline scientists refer to as ‘holy resonance’ (frequencies outside 20 - 20000 Hz). The corporation later curates their findings and showcases them to the public in a museum/exhibition format, as a way to keep all public statements about vision and core values in line with what the company allegedly claims to be doing. In theory, if their discoveries are safe enough to be displayed to regular people, the government and the public can rest assured that there is nothing beyond what is in front of them to worry about, reinforcing slogans like ‘knowledge for everyone, safer than anyone’. But of course, the danger of some of these findings is concealed with frequencies that the human ear can hear, and the secrets of SLUICEGATE LOGISTICS are never truly revealed.
This is where our musical acts come in. What is provided to the public as a musical performance will represent the tactics that the corporation utilises to deceive their fictional world. Which is why we will have all acts elapse in a large cage built around the decks and stage (as one of the main ideas for our set design), for the duration of their sets; given that the real findings are wild and threatening, they must be kept outside real reach from the audience. Further aesthetic choices will be made to appeal to the senses and help construct the conceptualisation proposed, i.e. lights, smells, actors in the crowd, opening business presentation, oscillators etc.
The gig will be held at Crowbar Terrace on November 15th, 2024. It will consist of 3 music performances of 40 - 45 minutes each in a sensory evoking space.
